Coach bookings and group travel

On March 12th, 1990 for the first time a Joost’s Ostsee-Express coach was driving on the streets of Northern Germany. A used coach of the series O 303 was the big pride of the recently established company. Very soon it carried countless people from Rostock to their destination in Hamburg or Copenhagen, Denmark.

With a high level of motivation and courage Karl-Heinrich Joost founded the business back in winter 1989-90 overcoming the many obstacles in the former German Democratic Republic.

Joost’s Ostsee-Express was the first independent Eastern German coach operator founded in the Rostock area. And with the increasing demand on the client’s side, the company could acquire additional coaches and busses. At that time, the coach business was mainly characterized by day trips, but Joost’s Ostsee-Express already offered packaged tours to several destinations in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. Besides, an agreement could be made with the local administration to operate school busses in the Bad Doberan area.

In 1991, Joost’s Ostsee-Express entered a new business area: the first Joost’s travel agency was opened in Bad Doberan as a full-service agency offering packaged tours and trips from Germany’s leading travel businesses TUI, Neckermann, ITS and more. The travel agency further books and issues tickets for flights, rail journeys and boat cruises.

One of the most significant years in the history of Joost’s Ostsee-Express was certainly the year 1992: After long and difficult negotiations the “Regionalverkehr Küste GmbH (RvK)” was founded, a transport company holding the license for regular bus service in the Bad Doberan area. For this purpose, we founded the “Joost’s Linienverkehre GmbH” combining all existing regular bus service in this region. Together with the county administration of Bad Doberan, Joost’s Linienverkehre GmbH is an associate in the RvK. 

Another great event was the delivery of the brand new Mercedes Benz O 303 touring coach of the special series “Success” that became the flagship of our modern fleet at Joost’s Ostsee-Express.  At this point we already only acquired brand new vehicles that were produced according to our specifications and needs.

The following years were marked by continuous development and growth of the entire company: While new travel agencies could be opened (2 new offices in Rostock Lütten-Klein and Rostock Lichtenhagen as well as in Neubukow, Schwaan and since 2002 also in Güstrow), Joost’s Ostsee-Express could also extend its offer of bus trips and tours.

Today we offer our clients a comprehensive catalog with trips to everywhere from the North Cape to the Mediterranean, with boat trips as well as combined flight- and coach trips.

Joost’s Ostsee-Express organizes and plans all of its trips mainly internally. Through the close collaboration with hoteliers and shipping companies we can ensure superb quality and therefore achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction. Both coach tours and day trips are exclusively realized with our vehicles and our permanently employed staff. Our modern booking system – all travel agencies can book our trips online – further contributes to the high level of safety in our business.

In 2005 there was an important change in our executive board: the responsibility was conferred on to the next generation in our family: Since September 2005 Mr. Tilo Joost is the executive director of Joost’s Ostsee-Express Busreisen GmbH. With this change, the fleet was further extended and modernized: Today several coaches of the series Mercedes-Benz Travego and Toursismo equipped with a four-star and five-star interior belong to our vehicle fleet. A small mini van with 25 seats, a VIP-bus for 16 passengers and several small vans of the series Mercedes Viano are to your disposal. Besides standardized equipment such as air-conditioning, on-board lavatory and kitchen, video system etc., all new coaches have seat belts since 1995 – way before the introduction of the according governmental regulations. 

In the regular bus service, we cover the complete route network between Bad Doberan and the North West of Rostock (Warnemünde, Lütten Klein) as well as further routes for school busses. All in all, Joost’s Ostsee-Express disposes over 10 coaches for regular bus service. Since 2007, we employ low-floor vehicles in order to increase the convenience for our passengers; and with the new “Citaro Low Entry” for the first time a coach meeting the new stringent emission standard “Euro 5” is on duty.
